Well, from I've played of it, I've quite enjoyed it. I'm on the edge right now about buying it. I love the space battles as they've got somewhat of an epic feel to them.

Right now, as I see it, you can't really go wrong with at least giving this a go, especially if you're a Star Trek fan.

Why does ST:O have guilds? I don't remember any guilds on the federation side in the series.

I decided to put my purchase on hold, at least for the time being. I'll have to see what happens post-launch, before I make my decision. The open beta didn't really impress me all that much, albeit I didn't have a lot of time to play. The ground-combat needs a lot of work, and it just doesn't feel "right" in its current stage. I'll also have to see what type of end-game there is, if any. Hopefully, it has a successful launch and Cryptic does a good job of supporting it, as it does have a lot of potential.

Unfortunately, it looks like Cryptic doesn't have the resources to support the game in its current shape. The beta was "nice", but nowhere what I would expect a subscription-based game. It's a shame as there's a lot of potential (more specifically in space, although I believe I'll enjoy more Jumpgate Evolution when it's out), although their business model wasn't clear (e.g., would we be able to play Borg at a later stage?), but like Engage I'll wait a good few months to reconsider.

Okay, ground combat is a pain and space combat is nice. So what is the ratio of ground combat to ship combat provided you don't try to focus only on doing one or the other and play normally (IE you play the quests as they come)? Are you going to be doing a lot of space combat and only a little tedious ground combat or is it the other way around?

Apparently today is launch day for STO. Did anyone here decide to get it in the end? I wonder how it will fare in 6 month's time, when it's a little more established.

I have several friends that got it. Several of them were in the beta. Most of them said it was ok, not spectacular or anything, but decent.

Several of them quit GW for it (well, it and the new Star Wars game or ME2). Even gave their accounts away or sold them. Hope it was worth it :/

6 of 10 is about right. The player reviews on gamespot were averaging about 7.3 and they are usually a point or so more generous than the reviewers are until the "official" review goes up.
